Στη βιβλιογραφία αναφέρεται ως κύρια τροφή σπόροι.Εδώ,στην Πυλαία,κάτω από μια μουριά με λευκά μούρα βρίσκεται στο έδαφος αρκετή τροφή ,όχι μόνο για τα σκαρθάκια ,αλλά και για σπουργίτια,φλώρους ,καρδερίνες και ψαρόνια.
